How I wish one of these collection be mine…. Have a great day to all and nice reading.

Less than a year after being sold by Ford Motor Company to a group of investors, Aston Martin seems to be continuing down its successful path. For 2009 the marque’s flagship gets a number of updates. The DB9 gets new 19-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels, new door mirrors and a revised, anodized aluminum five-bar grille. Inside is a new center console made from die-cast zinc with an iridium-silver finish and the “Emotion Control Unit” (ECU) that was initially introduced in the DBS. The ECU — constructed from glass, polished stainless steel and polycarbonate — replaces the DB9’s key. The DB9 also gets an upgrade under the hood. The already-powerful 6.0-liter V12 gets 20 more horses for a total of 470 horsepower. Top speed is now 190 mph, and 60 mph comes up slightly faster than the previous model. The suspension has also been revised to improve ride quality as well as handling. Meanwhile, the V8 Vantage gets a number of enhancements, most which occur beneath its sexy skin. The Aston’s V8 grows to 4.7 liters, fuel economy and emissions are improved, and the displacement bump provides a 40-horsepower increase to 420. The 0-60 mph time drops to just 4.7 seconds, and top speed is now 180 mph. Other improvements include a revised interior, upgraded suspension and standard new 20-inch wheels.

Volkswagen, Sanyo to develop lithium-ion battery

Volkswagen AG will join forces with Japan’s Sanyo Electric to develop a lithium-ion battery, a key component of hybrid and electric cars.

The German automaker hopes to start importing the battery for use by 2012, the Nikkei newspaper reported Sunday, citing company sources.

By working with Sanyo, Volkswagen hopes to catch up with rivals in eco-friendly vehicles, the newspaper said.

Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in personal computers and mobile phones, and Sanyo has the largest global market share for them.

Toyota, which has enjoyed enormous successes with Prius hybrid model, has worked with Matsushita Electric Industrial, known for its Panasonic brand, to start mass-production of a lithium-ion battery for use in Toyota’s hybrid models by 2010, the Nikkei said.

Nissan Motor Co. and Japanese electronics giant NEC Corp. have also agreed to start mass-producing a lithium-ion battery for a more eco-friendly vehicle than is possible with nickel-hydrogen batteries, which are used widely in vehicles now, the Nikkei said.

The lithium-ion battery that Sanyo and Volkswagen will develop will be smaller than a nickel-hydrogen battery, making it possible to design lighter cars than those using conventional batteries, the Nikkei said.

Sanyo is going through a restructuring and believes its battery business is key to its turnaround.

Sanyo is currently manufacturing nickel-hydrogen batteries that can be recharged repeatedly and supplying them to Honda Motor Co. and Ford Motor Co.

Volkswagen and subsidiary Audi AG will also adopt Sanyo-made nickel-hydrogen batteries for use in the Volkswagen group’s first hybrid model, to be rolled out as early as next year, the Nikkei said.
